How far can you throw?

We are going to talk about why we seem to limit out on our distance shots.

How many times have you pictured the perfect line, just to not have the power to get the disc where you need it to fly? I know that I am guilty of this. When I first started there were what seemed to be increments of potential, where I could hit a consistent 100 ft then 200 ft then 300 ft. After hitting the 300 ft mark and getting there consistently, it was like hitting a wall. I just for the life of me couldn’t get past 300 ft. I would start to throw harder and harder until I was throwing my arm out of socket, (not really though). I was watching a pro distance throwing match when I realized something. These guys are throwing with their whole body. I mean they were falling over with spin from their throw. I started to take notes and change some things. On my walk up I used to sorta stutter on my last step. It was like I didn’t want to get rid of the disc. Another thing that I noticed was I was keeping the front of my body towards the target. Anyone who knows anything knows to look away to place your front shoulder to the target. I you are having these same issues then what helped me could help you. First I had to get comfortable with LOOKING AWAY. Yeah something that if you aren’t normally comfortable with doing, really sucks. Once you can start doing that, you will end up having to rely on your body positioning as well as your release point. When you get these down you will find out you are more consistent with aim. It has to do with the run up. When you make your body do the same thing over and over it gets memorized. Now that your aim is consistent we will work on putting your body through the throw, which also can feel weird at the start. you want to essentially use your back leg to thrust your hips through the twist that makes your throw. If your timing is right, everything will feel soo good and fluid. You may even start to notice a further distance. I encourage anyone who is struggling with form in general, to watch a lot of disc golf content as well as record yourself throwing so that you can compare it to how the “Pros” are doing. Thank you for reading, and good luck out there!!
